Freedom is a complex concept with a rich history. It has been won at high cost but continues to pay high dividends to those who value it. This paper seeks to explore the relationship between technological instruments of power and their role in achieving and retaining freedom in the modern world in the face of contemporary challenges infused with age-old dilemmas particularly if scientific knowledge is allowed to eclipse ethics. Freedom is privilege that requires continuous dialogue and curation lest it decay and disappear within a single generation. The foregoing discussion attempts to grapple with how culture and technology interact to reflect the power structures and value systems in which they operate influence their character and propagation, particularly in the context of the United States and the United Kingdom.
